Has cynicism become fashionable?

Just wondering what people thought about this. Sure, a lot of things cynical people say are true, but a lot of the time the subjects they speak about are entirely subjective, and being over cynical about something can turn out to be self-defeatist (i.e. if you convince yourself something good will NOT happen, you'll never make the effort to make it happen for yourself)
