Does having a job (or not) make a difference in college admissions?

I agree with Red Seven. Colleges know that it is hard for teens to get jobs. Consider networking through the people who know you at your hospital volunteer job. If you like the hospital work, ask about the requirements for a summer job next year as a orderly. Ask about whether or not you would be able to get certification as an EMT-B or CNA when you turn 18. Find out if you can get the training before you turn 18. Consider getting some type of certification for seasonal employment (e.g. lifeguard or water safety instructor if you can swim well). Apply far ahead of time (around Christmas) for summer jobs with parks, camps, etc.
